A Circular walk from Polldubh

The area round Polldubh is well known to climbers and has many separate butresses and crags giving climbing suited to all level.  Hence, it is popular with climbers from the novice to the highly experienced.  Another part of it's charm is that the rock mostly faces south, so it doesn't suffer too much from green slime, and dries fairly soon after rain.  There is also now a large car-park at Polldubh, on the right just before the bridge over the falls.  This walk starts from that car park.

Follow the road towards the bridges, but go through the stile just before them.  This is the second stile - the path through the first one goes towards the Mamores instead.  And obvious track follows along beside the river, which has places where there are lovely falls and cascades.  After about a mile the path starts climbing though some rather sticky bog, gradually at first and them more steeply to the high point of the walk.  From here there are splendid views of the Polldubh crags, and also up Glen Nevis towards Meall Cumhann.  The path now undulates though woodlands along the steep side of the valley.  In a few places there is quite a drop off to the left, so this is not a place for people with a bad head for heights.  After about ½ mile it is possible to cross back to the road side via a small bridge.  (NN 158 684)

It's then a simple walk back along the road to the falls.  When crossing back over the bridges there are splendid views of the falls below.  These are most impressive soon after heavy rain, and are also the highlight of the raft race held every year in adi of the local Mountain Recue team.  Do take care - the bridges are narrow and in high season a remarkable amount of traffic uses this road.
