Glen Nevis is a delightful place at almost any time of the year. Wainwright (of the Lakeland guidebooks fame) described it as one of his favourite places in Scotland, with just cause. The Glen itself provides some lovely gentle walks, and it is also the access point for the Tourist Route up Ben Nevis, most of the Mamores and the western end of the Grey Corries. You will often find a herd of Highland cattle here, and sometimes eagles can be seen soaring high above the mountains.
It usually takes about 30 minutes to drive to the end of Glen Nevis. The Polldubh waterfalls are about half way along, but from there to the end of the Glen the road is single track with passing places. The car parks fill up very quickly at summer weekends, and sadly are also the targets of petty thieves at that time of year, so please don't leave any valuables in your car. |
