This 'Route Book' contains my reminiscences of most walks and climbs I have done in Lochaber and the surrounding areas.  Many of them have involved the ascent of at least one Munro (most Scottish Mountains over 3,000' / 914m), but there are also gentle valley walks and easy hill walks in most of the sections.  I have also included information on the gear I use.

Each section is based on the general starting point.  On the page for each section you will find some general information about the area, a guide to the driving time and a list of walks.  I have also included the number of Munros (if any) in after the title of each route (based on the 1997 revision of Munro's Tables), an indication of the grade I feel is appropriate to each walk: (Valley, Hill, Mountain, (M+ for particularly lengthy routes) and Climbs), and a 'personal enjoyment' rating.  The more stars the better!

As these pages are my memories and experiences, the route may not be described.  For the hill and mountain walks, and climbs you should consult other sources for this information, such as the various SMC publications (especially their book 'The Munros), OS maps and also the local weather (and avalanche) forecasts in Nevis Sport and West Coast Leisure, which are far more specific than those in the press or on Teletext.  For the Valley walks the OS maps and the various leaflets at 'Nevis View', and available from the Tourist Information Centres are a better source of information.

Please remember that there is a deer stalking season which can affect access to the hills and mountains in late summer and autumn.  This is both an important economic activity, and is also necessary to control the numbers of Red deer.  NTS land (such as Kintail and Glencoe) has no restrictions, but for hill and mountain walks in other estates please check.  There is a service called 'Hillphones' which contains up-to-date information for several areas.  Nevis Sport and West Coast leisure should be able to supply their correct phone numbers, and details of the areas covered.  There is also lambing from March to May, so please avoid disturbing the ewes and their lambs.
