The Old Military Road |

Creag Dubh is really a small outlier on Meall a' Bhuiridh at the Glencoe ski area. It's now very popular with the local parapente enthusiasts, and makes a nice short walk. From the White Corries car park (GR 266525) there is a rather eroded path leading up under the access chair lift. The original single-seater has been superseded but still remains. I found this section tedious but thankfully it's not too long. Once we reached the top of the chairlift the ground flattens out and it's an easy walk to the summit (749m, GR 258520). My friend had his canopy with him but conditions were not suitable for flying, so we headed off east along a track leading to another Old Military Road. We had been going to head straight back down but I fancied seeing some deer and thought we had a good chance on this path, and this turned out to be correct. We can across a small group of hind which we watched until they realised we were there and bounded off. When we reached the junction (GR 277514) we turned back towards the van. My friend ran on ahead and met me at the junction of the Military Road and the West Highland Way. As usual he had a flask of hot water and we sat in the quiet drinking a welcome cup of tea. |
